Backup keys and Sub Keys can be serialized to Locks using the Tosibox Key software.
- Backup key is essentially a copy of a Master Key and can access all locks serialized by the Master Key and vice versa. However, Sub key access rights given to a master Key are not copied to Back-up Key as only the original Master key can give the rights to these locks.
- Sub Key can access only locks it has been given access rights to by the Master Key. New Keys cannot be made using a Sub Key

Serializing a Key
- Insert a Key (that has already been serialized to a Lock) to the USB port of the computer and wait until the Tosibox Key software starts.
- Insert another Key to another USB port of the computer.
- The Key serialization wizard starts automatically. You can also start it manually from the
Devices > Manage Keysmenu.
- When doing a local serialization, the second Key inserted to the computer’s USB port is automatically selected. This selection cannot be changed. Click on the Next button.
- On the first page of the Key serialization wizard you can select Backup or Sub Key.
- Select Backup Key if you want to create a backup key or Sub Key for creating a subkey.
- Give name for the Sub Key/Backup Key (this is visible for end user, but can be changed later from master/backup Key for their user interface view)
- For the Backup Key, all locks will synchronize as per the Master Key. However, you must select the specific locks to which you want to serialize the Sub Key. Once done, click the Next button.
- Next a list is shown which includes the Locks you are about to serialize the Sub Key to. After you have confirmed that you want to serialize the Sub Key to these Locks, click on the Save button.
- If the Sub Key has a password, enter it next.
- Backup key option will not let you select the Locks, but it will be given rights to all Locks serialized to the master Key.
- The serialization is now complete. Click on the Finish button to exit the wizard.

Please note that currently offline Locks only appear on new Backup and Sub Keys once the Locks come online again.
